TOKYO SKYTREE Lights Up for Children’s Cancer Groups
TOKYO SKYTREE, one of Tokyo’s most iconic structures, was illuminated in a new gold lighting design on 9th September (until 8:00 pm, Japan standard time), as part of the Japan Children’s Cancer Group’s ‘Global Gold September’ Campaign.
The aim of the campaign, in which landmarks are lit up in gold, is to raise awareness of childhood cancers and shine a light on young cancer patients and their specific and often unmet care and research needs. In support of the aims of the ‘Global Gold September’ Campaign, the TOKYO SKYTREE agreed that the structure would be illuminated in gold.
The TOKYO SKYTREE illumination was the first time a landmark in Japan had been part of the ‘Global Gold September’ Campaign. While TOKYO SKYTREE shone gold in support of the campaign, the Japan Children’s Cancer Group held a streaming event to raise awareness of childhood cancers, supported by the Dai-ichi Life Insurance Company Limited, featuring appearances by artists including Pikotaro (of Pen Pineapple Apple Pen fame) and J-pop duo moumoon.
You can also show your support throughout September by wearing a gold ribbon. The event was streamed live online, and you can watch the archive here until 30th September.
