St Patrick’s Day Celebrations Around the World: Who Does It Best Outside of Ireland?

St Patrick’s Day is a global celebration, but it’s interesting to ponder who best commemorates this day outside of Ireland. A recent study has sought to answer this very question, scrutinising various locations worldwide to determine the ultimate spot for St Patrick’s Day festivities based on a range of factors. These include the average cost of a meal, the number of planned events, and the likelihood of rain.

The study, conducted by HelloFresh Ireland, reveals that Buenos Aires is the go-to city for the most affordable pint and meal on March 17th. Meanwhile, Boston in the United States stands out as the destination hosting the most St Patrick’s Day themed events outside of Ireland.

HelloFresh Ireland initiated this study to guide Irish expatriates in celebrating away from home and to encourage global participation in the festivities.

Analysing 20 renowned locations for their St Patrick’s Day celebrations, the study rated them on five key factors: the estimated cost of a pint, the cost of a meal, the number of St Patrick’s Day events, the average temperature on March 17th, and the likelihood of rain in March. The results? Buenos Aires emerged as the best place to celebrate St Patrick’s Day abroad, while Boston is slated to host the most themed celebrations. As for Barcelona, Spain, it’s the best bet for avoiding rain on the big day.

The study ranked the top 10 locations to celebrate St Patrick’s Day abroad, considering all these factors:

  1. Buenos Aires, Argentina
  2. Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
  3. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
  4. New Orleans, United States
  5. Barcelona, Spain
  6. Tokyo, Japan

The study also explored the cost of indulging in a meal on St Patrick’s Day. Buenos Aires topped the list as the most budget-friendly option, followed by Kuala Lumpur and Tokyo. However, New York ranked as the most expensive city for a meal, averaging €27.74 per person.

As for the cheapest pint, Buenos Aires wins again, according to the data analysed by HelloFresh Ireland.
