Bursting with Pride in Northumberland

Northumberland Pride are further embedding equality into Northumberland’s fantastic community this weekend with their second ever event. 2018 saw over a staggering 2,500 people come together to celebrate Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender (LGBT+) heritage, and this year is looking to be even bigger, better and brighter.

Celebrations have been scattered throughout the week, and tomorrow (Friday 31st May) a 5K Fun Run will take place, in partnership with Ability Events and Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. The circular running route will start and end at Alnwick Rugby Club at 7.30pm, and all are welcome to join by entering event here.

The pot of gold at the end of the rainbow will be the celebrations on Saturday 1st June, as the week’s event will culminate in a magical day of music, marching and mayhem. The day will start with the pride march from Bondgate in Alnwick, where bursts of bright, sparkling colours will make their way through Alnwick and create quite the spectacle. Just make your way there in your most vibrant, weird and wonderful clothing for 12pm to join the march.

This will be followed by a host of live performances; prepare to be moved by powerful ballads from X-Factor’s Sam Bailey, sway to singer-songwriter Lorraine Crosby’s husky tones, shake your hips to The Abba Show and enjoy the exquisite voices of Northumberland Pride Pop-Up Choir. The whole thing will be hosted by Anna Foster, radio presenter at BBC Newcastle Radio for the North East, so if you can’t be there in person, you can be there in spirit and listen live on Pride Radio.

There will also be a number of trade and community stalls present on the day, as well as a Health and Well-being Zone, a Food and Drink Trans Hub and a Family and Youth Zone.
