Brits Prefer Black Pudding Over Beans on Their Full English Breakfast, According to New Survey
What would you say if asked to name one part of a full English breakfast you couldn’t go without?
The verdict is in, and it appears that most Brits can agree that bacon is the star of our fry-ups. According to new survey data, it is the most favoured part of Full English, with 29% of respondents saying they needed it on their plate.
Bacon narrowly beat sausage, which took second place in the rankings (21%) and a fried egg (17%) came in third.
The survey, conducted by HelloFresh to celebrate Breakfast Week, polled adults from around the UK on their breakfast preferences.
Surprisingly, one in twenty prefers black pudding for breakfast over beans. At the same time, mushrooms have been identified as the UK’s preferred vegetable addition, topping tomatoes which were the least popular item, receiving only 2% of the vote.
The data also highlighted some notable regional divides, too. For example, people in Glasgow and Liverpool ranked sausages higher than bacon.
Still, the two were equally popular in Belfast, where the classic fry breakfast is known as an Irish Breakfast and Ulster Breakfast with added ingredients like fried soda bread, potato pancakes, and white pudding.
So how can you make the British fry up even better?
Mimi Morley, recipe development manager at HelloFresh, said: “Over the years, thousands of households have made the full English breakfast a tradition! Whether it’s fuel for physical labour, a hangover cure or a weekend treat, you can always count on this hearty platter.”
“And now, there are many options for alternative recipes to the traditional dish, making it even more sought after amongst Brits! But if you are bored of the same old sausages and beans, we’ve found the best-tasting additions you can try at home.”
Mimi Morley and the HelloFresh team have compiled two tantalising twists to add to your next cooked breakfast.
Avocado toast
If you want to add a healthier twist to your brekkie, spreading some creamy avocado on your toast will do the trick. Packed with proteins, healthy fats, and nutrients, it makes the perfect addition to this dish, and it’s super simple yet so tasty! Top the avocado toast with the fried egg and garnish with your favourite seasonings.
Bacon hash browns
Much more delicious and crispier than your standard hash brown! Finely chop the bacon up and add to your mixing bowl of potatoes and onions, pop in your flour, milk, egg and seasoning to create that exquisite toast potato flavour. Mix well before dividing into squares.
To cook, heat the oil in a frying pan; use butter if desired and wait until sizzling; gently fry on either side for a couple of minutes or until the edges turn golden. Work in batches if needed.
Mimi commented: “The crunch of the bacon adds so much to the hash browns that you don’t need anything else! It’s a great way to elevate the flavour of the potatoes and makes the ideal complement to your dish if you’re bored of the same old ingredients.”
